Believe it or not, you don't even have to drive to an orchard to get fresh pears anymore! You can just buy one of our premium Pear Boxes, packed with our homegrown, juicy Magness pears – a delightful sweet pear variety perfect for fresh eating. Magness pears are a cross between Seckel and Comice pears and boast smooth non-grainy flesh that is amazingly sweet and juicy. Kauffman Orchards is a family-owned small business in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, established back in 1915 with a vision to provide the local community with fresh, nutritious fruit that enhances quality of life for the American consumer. Today, the orchard is managed by the 4th and 5th generations of Kauffmans and still follows that goal of raising Nutrient-Dense fruit that has enhanced vitamins, minerals, and flavor. This Fruit Box contains premium, Nutrient-Dense, non-GMO, non-waxed Magness pears, and each pear has soft, high-density foam surrounding it to ensure protection during shipping. The 8-count box holds approximately 2.5-3 pounds of fresh pears and the 16-count box contains approximately 5-6 pounds. We hand-pack each pear box with the best quality pears hand-picked in our orchard. For optimum flavor, juiciness, and sweetness of your pears, please evaluate each pear's ripeness when they arrive. Pears ripen slowly and may need a few days at room temperature for complete ripening. With your thumb, you can test the firmness of the pear at the stem and if it is slightly soft, it is ready to eat (or you can keep in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks before eating). If the pear is firm at the stem, let it ripen at room temperature until it softens. Depending on how ripe it is on arrival, it may take up to 5 days to fully ripen.
