A.L. and Sue purchase a 90-acre farm located at 53 South Weavertown Road. They begin to farm the land and grow their family of eight.

A.L. converts a portion of his farm to orchards.

The first fruits are harvested from Kauffman's apple trees and A.L. begins to sell his fruit.

A.L. begins to sell his fruit from a roadside stand at 3102 Old Philadelphia Pike.

A.L. builds a large "packing house" along the Old Philadelphia Pike in order to process and pack fruit for wholesale and retail.

Frozen food lockers are added to the packinghouse for cold storage.

The business is incorporated as "A.L. Kauffman & Sons".

Mid-1950s
Kauffman's opens their retail market to serve the local community and visitors to the area.

Kauffman's core management strategy becomes Integrated Pest Management, wherein far fewer pesticides are used. Nutrient management and soil fertility represent the most basic part of Kauffman's pest management strategy.

The wholesale portion of the business is started and experiences great growth.

Kauffman's begins making homemade apple butter.

Kauffman's begins apple cider flash-pasteurization and builds a state-of-the-art pasteurization room.

Kauffman's goes online with their first website and starts selling fresh fruit, bulk foods, and apple butter across the nation.

Kauffman's celebrates 100 years of business!

Generational ownership transition: 5th-generation Kauffmans take on the business from 3rd-generation Kauffmans.

Kauffman's acquires a market stand in Lancaster City's famous Central Market so city dwellers can appreciate the fine Kauffman orchard foods.

Kauffman's changes the business name to 'Kauffman Orchards' to bring simplicity and to emphasize Pick-Your-Own fruits in the orchards.

Kauffman Orchards offers U-Pick Fruits in season, online shopping, wholesale sales of fresh fruits and orchard products, and all of our usual favorites at our Bird-in-Hand market.
